WSOF Launches New Program to Help Military Veteran MMA Fighters

Las Vegas-based MMA promotion World Series of Fighting announced on Tuesday a groundbreaking new program designed to help military veteran MMA fighters. WSOF: Who’s The Toughest” will support and further the fighting careers of military veterans who either actively compete in MMA or are seeking to compete. According to the WSOF, officials from the company will begin a recruitment program that will see President Ray Sefo and his team visit various MMA gyms, beginning with a location in San Diego next month. They’ll be able to evaluate the pool of talent with veteran status and the first two veteran recruits will square off at WSOF 35 live on NBCSN on Nov. 12. “As one of the major leagues in the sport of MMA with a national television platform in NBC and NBCSN, we have the ability to offer a potentially life-changing opportunity to fighters who are ready to make the jump,” said World Series of Fighting CEO Carlos Silva. “We intend to leverage our position in the industry to benefit any veterans that show promise.” In January at WSOF 27, the promotion placed its first military veteran – Caros Fodor – in action. Fodor, who joined the Marines after high school following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on America, did a tour of Kuwait, eventually became a sergeant before completing his duties in 2007.
