Sherdog’s Top 10: Longest Major MMA Title Reigns

No. 4

4. Jose Aldo | UFC Featherweight -- 1,848 Days

Aldo first captured the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight crown by knocking out Mike Thomas Brown in the second round of their Nov. 18, 2009 encounter. He successfully defended the title twice, besting Urijah Faber and Manny Gamburyan, before the WEC merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and he was made the UFC’s first featherweight champion. Aldo never bothered looking in his rearview mirror.

The precision striker retained the UFC title on seven different occasions, scoring a highlight-reel knockout on Team Alpha Male’s Chad Mendes along the way. Aldo also beat Ricardo Lamas, Frankie Edgar, Mark Hominick, Chan Sung Jung and Kenny Florian, all of whom failed take the 145-pound championship from him. The Nova Uniao standout’s reign came to a shocking and most unceremonious end at UFC 194 on Dec. 12, when he was felled by a Conor McGregor left hand just 13 seconds into their main event.
