Benson Henderson: By The Numbers

Benson Henderson remains in search of a dominant performance for his new employer.

A disappointing 1-2 since flying the Ultimate Fighting Championship coop for Bellator MMA, Henderson will square off with Patricky Freire in the Bellator 183 main event this Saturday at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The John Crouch-trained Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has not fought since he wound up on the wrong side of a split decision at Bellator 165, where he failed in his bid to unseat lightweight champion Michael Chandler on Nov. 19. Henderson carries with him one of the sport’s most impressive resumes, with wins over Nate Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Donald Cerrone (twice), Jorge Masvidal, Josh Thomson, Rustam Khabilov, Clay Guida and Jim Miller.

During a long and successful career that saw him reach the mountaintop in the UFC, Henderson has compiled his share of intriguing statistical data:

1: Victory since joining the Bellator roster in April 2016. His decision losses to Chandler and Andrey Koreshkov are sandwiched around a technical knockout of Patricio Freire.

2: All-America selections. Henderson was a two-time All-American wrestler at Dana College, an NAIA school in Blair, Nebraska.

2: Wins over Frankie Edgar. Henderson is one of two fighters -- Jose Aldo is the other -- to have beaten the future hall of famer on more than one occasion. “Smooth” defeated Edgar by unanimous decision at UFC 144 on Feb. 26, 2012 and earned a split decision in their rematch at UFC 150 a little less than six months later.

6: First-round finishes on his resume. Cerrone, Shane Roller, Bryan Corley, David Dagloria, Allen Williams and Dan Gregary comprise his list of victims.

8: Men other than Henderson who have held the UFC lightweight championship. They are Pettis, Edgar, Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn, Rafael dos Anjos, Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor.

8: Wins by submission. Henderson has posted four victories by rear-naked choke and four others by guillotine choke.

11: Wins by decision. Always a darling of the cageside judges, Henderson has made a living out of going the distance. Victories on points account for nearly 46 percent of his career total.

33: Years of age. Henderson turns 34 on Nov. 16.

148: Combined wins between the six fighters -- Chandler, Koreshkov, dos Anjos, Pettis (twice), Cerrone and Rocky Johnson -- who have defeated Henderson.

892: Cumulative days spent as Ultimate Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting champion. Henderson is one of five men to have held titles in both organizations, along with Pettis, Aldo, Dominick Cruz and Frank Shamrock.
