By The Numbers: Seung Woo Choi vs. Julian Erosa

Seung Woo Choi has put himself in position to make some waves in the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division.

The 28-year-old South Korean prospect will put his two-fight winning streak on the line when he meets Julian Erosa in a featured UFC on ESPN 25 affair this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Choi evened his record inside the Octagon at 2-2 with back-to-back victories over Suman Mokhtarian and Youssef Zalal. He has not competed since he took a unanimous decision from Zalal at UFC Fight Night 184 in February. Erosa, meanwhile, enters the cage on the strength of a three-fight winning streak. He last appeared at UFC Fight Night 185, where he wiped out Nate Landwehr with a flying knee on Feb. 20.

As Choi and Erosa prepare for their three-round battle at 145 pounds, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

28: Years of age for Choi, who was born on Nov. 3, 1992 in Gangneung, South Korea, nearly 5,900 miles from Ultimate Fighting Championship headquarters.

5: Choi wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 56% of his career total (nine). He has delivered four of them inside one round. Choi’s fastest finish took place at Top Fighting Championship 15 on July 22, 2017, when he brought down Young Bok Kil with punches in just 93 seconds.

80: Significant strikes by which Choi has outlanded the opposition in back-to-back victories over Zalal and Suman Mokhtarian. He connected on 136 such strikes in those two bouts while absorbing only 56 in return.

4: Promotions in which Choi has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 5-1 in Top Fighting Championship, 2-2 in the UFC, 1-0 in Art of War and 1-0 in Kunlun Fight.

2: Title reigns for Choi in the Top Fighting Championship organization. He held the featherweight championship from Sept. 11, 2016 to March 6, 2017 and again from Dec. 9, 2017 to April 20, 2019.

31: Years of age for Erosa, who was born in Seattle on July 31, 1989. “Turner & Hooch,” “Lethal Weapon 2,” “Batman,” “When Harry Met Sally…” and “Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan” were the Top 5 movies at the domestic box office at the time.

11: Erosa victories by submission, accounting for 44% of his career total (25). His methods of choice: three armbars, three brabo chokes, three triangle chokes, one rear-naked choke and one bulldog choke. Erosa owns 11 other victories by knockout or technical knockout and three more by decision.

6: First-round stoppage wins on the Erosa resume. He delivered the first of them in his pro debut when he punched out Angel Diaz in 2:16 at CageSport 12 on Oct. 2, 2010.

103: Significant strikes landed by Erosa in his June 27, 2020 brabo choke submission of Sean Woodson at UFC on ESPN 12. It established a career-high in the category for “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 22 semifinalist, surpassing his previous personal-best by 42 strikes.
