Tyson Nam is a 28-fight veteran who has never set foot in the Octagon. That will change on Sept. 21 when he faces Sergio Pettis in Mexico City for UFC Fight Night 159. The Roufusport standout is looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. Let the numbers below give you a peek into this exciting bantamweight tussle.

Age and Overall Experience

Born on Aug. 18, 1993, Pettis is about 10 years younger than Nam, who will be celebrating his 36th birthday on Oct. 6. Pettis made his pro debut on Sept. 10, 2011, and then went undefeated in nine fights before entering the Ultimate Fighting Championship. His overall record now stands at 17-5.

Nam debuted professionally on Feb. 25, 2006. With stints in World Series of Fighting, King of the Cage, Shooto Brazil, Fight Nights Global and a host of other organizations, he has compiled a record of 18-9-1.

Octagon Appearances

As previously mentioned, Nam will be displaying his skills in the Octagon for the first time. For Pettis, who started his UFC career with a win over Will Campuzano back in November of 2013, this will be just another day at the office. In the years since, Pettis has fought the best in the flyweight division, including Henry Cejudo, Joseph Benavidez, John Moraga, Chris Cariaso and Jussier Formiga.

Wins by Knockout

Nam will be bringing with him a high knockout rate, having starched 10 of his opponents. That includes some tough 125ers like former UFC title challenger Ali Bagautinov and former two-time Bellator bantamweight titleholder Eduardo Dantas. At the time he beat Dantas, the Brazilian was still a reigning Bellator champ.

Pettis, by contrast, isn’t much of a power puncher, but he does have a win by TKO due to punches, a 51-second finish of a fighter named Dillard Pegg in the main event of RFA 8. He has two other wins by TKO, both via head kick.

Wins by Submission

The last time Pettis submitted anyone was at an event called NAFC: Battle in the Ballroom, which was his last bout before getting signed by the UFC. In all, the jiu-jitsu purple belt has three submission finishes to Nam’s one.

First-Round Finishes

With the higher finishing percentage between the two, Nam has stopped seven opponents within the first round, the most recent of whom was Rizvan Abuev at FNG 75. He also stopped Dantas, arguably the highest-profile victim on his resume, in the first round. Pettis, meanwhile, boasts five first-round stoppages.

Losses by Stoppage

Pettis has been stopped twice in his career. He was knocked out by Ryan Benoit at UFC 185 and was choked out by Alex Caceres at UFC on Fox 10. Meanwhile, Nam has been finished three times and all were by KO or TKO, no thanks to Marlon Moraes, Russell Doane and Mark Oshiro.
