By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 133
While it wasn’t quite a snoozer on par with Derrick Lewis vs. Francis Ngannou, the UFC Fight Night 133 headliner wasn’t one for the record books, either.
Former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos maintained a consistent output for five rounds at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday night, and that was enough to outpoint former World Series of Fighting tilist Blagoy Ivanov. Fortunately, there were several other noteworthy performances on the card, including a triumphant return by Chad Mendes and a slugfest between Alexander Volkanovski and Darren Elkins, among others. And on a night filled with 13 bouts, there are plenty of facts and figures to examine.

13: UFC wins for dos Santos, the third most in the history of the heavyweight division. Only fellow former champions Andrei Arlovski (16) and Frank Mir (16) have more victories than “Cigano.”
110: Significant strikes landed by dos Santos. By comparison,
Ivanov landed just 51. The Brazilian outlanded his foe 8 to 5 in
round one, 26 to 6 in round two, 19 to 8 in round three, 20 to 15
in round four and 37 to 17 in round five.
41: Significant body strikes landed by dos Santos. By comparison, Ivanov landed 10.
.220: Significant striking accuracy for Ivanov, who landed 51 of 229 attempts. Dos Santos landed 110 of 248 significant strikes, a 44 percent clip.
46: Career takedowns for Dennis Bermudez after he landed six of 14 tries against Rick Glenn in their featherweight matchup. That effort moved him past Chad Mendes (42) and into first place all-time in UFC/WEC featherweight history. Unfortunately for “The Menace,” he still lost a split decision on Saturday night.
10: Media scorecards, of the 16 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the featherweight bout to Bermudez.
2: KO/TKO victories from bottom position in UFC history after Niko Price accomplished the feat with a barrage of hammerfists from his back 1:09 into the second frame of his welterweight showdown with Randy Brown. The first: Jon Fitch defeated Thiago Alves via upkick at the 4:37 mark of round two at UFC Fight Night 5 on June 28, 2006.
6: KO/TKO victories for Chad Mendes in UFC competition after he returned from more than a two-year absence to stop Myles Jury via technical knockout 2:52 into the opening stanza of their featherweight clash on Saturday night. That ties him with Conor McGregor for the second-most KO/TKO in UFC featherweight history. Only reigning champion Max Holloway (seven) has more such victories.
9: Featherweight wins in UFC competition for Mendes, tying him with Dennis Bermudez and Ricardo Lamas for fourth most in the history of the division. Only Holloway (14), Darren Elkins (13) and Cub Swanson (10) have more victories at 145 pounds.
6: Takedowns landed by Cat Zingano in a unanimous decision victory against Marion Reneau in a featured bantamweight affair. That ties Ronda Rousey’s record set at UFC 168 against Miesha Tate for the most takedowns landed in a single bout at women’s bantamweight.
4: Consecutive victories for Alejandro Perez following his decision victory over Eddie Wineland in a preliminary bantamweight encounter. That ties him with Raphael Assuncao and Jose Alberto Quinonez for the longest active winning streak in the UFC’s 135-pound division.
13: Media scorecards, of the 15 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the contest to Wineland.
15: Consecutive triumphs — including five in the UFC — for Alexander Volkanovski following his three-round verdict over Darren Elkins in a featherweight scrap. The Australian has lost just once in 19 professional appearances overall.
2: Knockdowns landed by Volkanovski against Elkins in the opening stanza, a frame in which he landed 32 of 43 significant strikes, a 74 percent success rate.
182: Combined significant strikes landed by Volkanovski (100) and Elkins (82) in the entertaining three-round slugfest. Volkanovski landed 69 percent of his strikes, while Elkins connected at a 47 percent rate.
0: Takedowns landed in 12 attempts for Volkanovski. Elkins didn’t have much success in that area either, going 1 for 6 on his tries.
33: Significant strikes by which Said Nurmagomedov outlanded Justin Scoggins in their preliminary flyweight bout. Nurmagomedov also held an 86-to-32 advantage in total strikes landed in a split-decision win.
17: Media scorecards, of the 17 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the flyweight bout in favor of Scoggins.
54: Total strikes by which Liz Carmouche outlanded Jennifer Maia in their flyweight encounter. Carmouche, her also held a 53-to-42 edge in significant strikes and landed three of four takedowns, took a unanimous verdict in her second 125-pound appearance.
1,337: Days since Jessica Aguilar’s last MMA victory, a five-round verdict over Kalindra Faria in a strawweight title bout at WSOF 15 on Nov. 15, 2014. “Jag” returned to the win column on Saturday night with a unanimous decision triumph against Jodie Esquibel in a preliminary contest.
128: Significant strikes landed by Aguilar. By comparison, Esquibel landed 81. Aguilar outlanded her opponent 34 to 14 in round one 37 to 29 in round two and 57 to 38 in round three.
