Ciryl Gane is looking like a difficult matchup for just about anyone in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

“Bon Gamin” won his second straight five-round fight, earning a unanimous decision triumph against Alexander Volkov in the UFC Fight Night 190 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. Gane is now 9-0 since beginning his professional mixed martial arts career in August 2018, and it’s getting harder and harder to deny the Frenchman a shot at the promotion’s heavyweight crown.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 190, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

6: Consecutive victories for Gane, currently the longest active winning streak in the heavyweight division ahead of Francis Ngannou and Marcin Tybura, both of whom have won five bouts in a row.

5: Heavyweights in promotion history to be victorious in their first six Octagon appearances. With his triumph over Volkov, Gane joins Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, Francis Ngannou and Randy Couture as the only men to accomplish that feat. The other five all were UFC heavyweight champions.

135: Significant strikes landed by Gane, tied for the seventh most ever landed in a UFC heavyweight fight. By comparison, Volkov landed 115 significant strikes. Gane outlanded his opponent 24 to 22 in Round 2, 42 to 23 in Round 3 and 29 to 21 in Round 4, while Volkov held a 25-to-16 edge in Round 1. Both heavyweights landed 24 significant strikes in Round 5.

60: Significant head strikes for Gane; Volkov landed 41. Gane also held a 35-to-18 edge in significant body strikes.

56: Significant leg strikes landed by Volkov. Gane, meanwhile, landed 41.

24: Signficant strikes by which Tanner Boser outlanded Ovince St. Preux in a second-round knockout victory at heavyweight. The Canadian outlanded his foe 25 to 8 in Round 1 and 8 to 1 in Round 2 before the finish arrived.

0-2: Record for St. Preux at heavyweight. Prior to facing Boser, “OSP” dropped a split decision to Ben Rothwell in May 2020.

2: Knockdowns landed by Raoni Barcelos in the second round of his bantmaweight clash against Timur Valiev. That ultimately wouldn’t be enough for the Brazilian, as he was outlanded by a 77-to-69 count in significant strikes in a majority decision defeat.

19: Significant strikes by which Andre Fili outlanded Daniel Pineda before their featherweight clash ended due to an accidental eye poke from the Team Alpha Male representative 46 seconds into the second round. That included a 29-to-10 edge in significant strikes during a lopsided opening frame.

0: Takedowns landed in seven attempts by Pineda, who repeatedly failed in his attempts to bring the action to the canvas after being battered on the feet.

50: Fighters in UFC history to log four hours or more of Octagon time. Tim Means became the 50th in the third round of his matchup with Nicolas Dalby, a bout he would win via unanimous decision.

29: Significant body strikes landed by Means. By comparison, Dalby landed 13 significant body strikes.

8: Victories via rear-naked choke for Renato Carneiro, who used his favorite maneuver to tap out Jai Herbert in a featured lightweight clash. All of “Moicano’s” submission wins have come via RNC, including four in UFC competition.

5: Takedowns landed in seven attempts by Carneiro, a UFC career best for “Moicano.” The Brazilian had never landed by than two takedowns in a fight prior to Saturday. Carneiro also logged 7:35 of control time compared to eight seconds for his opponent.

31: Significant strikes landed by Kennedy Nzechukwu over the final two rounds en route to a TKO triumph over Danilo Marques 20 seconds into Round 3. The Fortis MMA product notably held a 15-to-1 edge in significant strikes against his foe during that short-lived final frame.

7:42: Total control time for Marques, who spend the majority of Round 1 and a large portion of Round 2 attached to Nzechukwu’s back.

10: Takedowns successfully defended in 12 attempts by Nzechukwu.

14: Consecutive victories to begin the professional career of welterweight prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov, who submitted Michel Prazeres with a rear-naked choke 2:10 into the second round of their preliminary encounter. The Kazakhstan native has finished seven wins by KO/TKO and seven by way of submission.

29: Professional bouts without a submission defeat for Prazeres before he succumbed to Rakhmonov’s choke at UFC Fight Night 190. The Brazilian’s previous three career defeats all came via decision.

32: Total strikes by which Rakhmonov outlanded Prazeres. The former M-1 Global champion also outlanded his opponent by 15 significant strikes.

3: Finishes stemming from body kicks in UFC light heavyweight history after Marcin Prachnio dispatched Isaac Villanueva with the manuever 56 seconds into Round 2 of their 205-pound matchup. The only two other light heavyweights to accomplish the feat: Jan Blachowicz (vs. Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night 53) and Rich Franklin (vs. Matt Hamill vs. at UFC 88).

21: Significant leg strikes landed by Prachnio, who battered his foe’s lead leg before finishing the fight with the aforementioned body kick. By comparison, Villanueva landed just one significant leg strike in the fight.

121: Significant strikes landed by Damir Hadzovic in a unanimous decision triumph over Yancy Medeiros at lightweight. That’s a career high in eight UFC bouts for the Bosnia and Herzegovina native, whose previous best of 71 significant strikes came in a victory over Nick Hein in July 2018. Medeiros landed 103 significant strikes in defeat.
