Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino: By The Numbers

Ferocity in mixed martial arts comes in all shapes and sizes, but few fighters -- if any -- have personified it more thoroughly than Cristiane Justino.

“Cyborg” will put her undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s featherweight title on the line against Jackson-Wink MMA star Holly Holm in the UFC 219 main event on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Justino has finished her past eight opponents, five of them inside one round, and only appears to be gaining steam atop a talent-starved 145-pound weight class. The Brazilian juggernaut last fought on July 29, when she laid claim to the vacant featherweight throne and disposed of Tonya Evinger with third-round knee strikes at UFC 214. “Cyborg” has compiled a perfect 3-0 record since arriving in the UFC a little less than two years ago.

As Justino marches toward her title defense against the upset-minded Holm, here are some of the numbers that have come to define her:

1: Loss by submission. Justino tapped to a first-round armbar from Erica Paes in her promotional debut on May 17, 2005. It remains the only defeat on her otherwise pristine resume.

2: Wins via decision. Yoko Takahashi and Vanessa Porto remain the only women to have gone the distance with Justino. Porto lost a unanimous decision to “Cyborg” at Storm Samurai 9 in November 2005 and Takahashi did the same some three years later at EliteXC “Heat” -- the same event at which Sam Petruzelli stunned Kevin Ferguson in a 14-second knockout.

3: Championships won. In addition to the UFC women’s featherweight title, Justino has captured gold in Strikeforce and Invicta Fighting Championships.

4: Women other than Justino who enjoyed title reigns inside Strikeforce. They were Marloes Coenen, Sarah Kaufman, Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey.

6: Promotions in which “Cyborg” has competed as a professional mixed martial artist. They are the UFC, Invicta, Strikeforce, EliteXC, Storm Samurai and Show Fight.

9: First-round finishes to her credit. Justino’s list of victims includes Gina Carano, Fiona Muxlow, Charmaine Tweet, Faith Van Duin and Daria Ibragimova.

16: Wins by knockout or technical knockout. They account for 89 percent of Justino’s career total.

32: Years of age. “Cyborg” was born in Curitiba, Brazil, on July 9, 1985.

88: Combined victories between the eight women “Cyborg” has beaten during her current eight-fight winning streak, a staggering 23 of which belong to the aforementioned Coenen.

136: Significant strikes by which Justino has outlanded the opposition in her first three UFC appearances, according to FightMetric. She has found the mark with 184 such strikes in roughly 21 minutes of cage time; opponents Evinger, Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith have connected with just 48 against her.
