TOTAL NUMBER OF LFA EVENTS: 73
The Legacy Fighting Alliance on Friday returned to Phoenix with an event chock full of exciting fights and quick finishes. LFA 72 featured one of the latest submissions in company history, a couple of fighters that have never brought judges into the equation and one of the fastest finishes in a Legacy Fighting Alliance main event.
TAP TAP TAP: LFA 72 ended with three straight
submissions, becoming the third event where this happened, joining
LFA 41 and LFA 52.
PUNISHMENT FOR MISSING WEIGHT: Daniel Madrid put away Chris Harris in 51 seconds with a rear-naked choke, scoring the second-fastest finish on record in an LFA main event. The quickest came when Curtis Millender knocked out Matthew Frincu with a head kick at LFA 24.
PUTTING THE ‘MAD’ IN MADRID: Madrid has still never won a fight on the scorecards, with all 16 of his victories coming before the final bell. This includes 14 submissions, a knockout and a 2008 disqualification.
BIG MEN CAN MOVE: Madrid’s 51-second finish of Harris is the fastest submission to take place in a contest above 175 pounds.
FROM WICHITA TO PHOENIX: Harris came in over the 186-pound limit by 0.8 pounds and lost in the main event to Madrid. Across all LFA headliners, only one fighter has ever missed weight and still won: Rafael Barbosa, who finished Nate Jennerman at LFA 68.
TICK-TOCKED: Jacob McClintock tapped Raymond Pina with an armbar in the second round. All 10 of McClintock’s career victories have come by stoppage. On the other side, all three of his losses were knockouts.
FROM PARIS WITH LOVE: Paris Stanford’s third-round triangle choke of Jake Heffernan at 4:17 was the fourth-latest submission in LFA history and the latest in the featherweight division.
FEATHERANGLE: The triangle choke by Stanford was the 10th seen in an LFA cage. More submissions of this type have taken place in the 145-pound division than any other.
MILETICH WAS NOT AMUSED: Michael Hamel landed several punches to the back of Bruno Assis de Souza Filho’s head in the third round of a fight that Hamel was largely dominating. As referee Ryan Brueggeman had warned Hamel about those strikes previously, the fight was ruled a disqualification instead of going to the judges for a technical decision.
JUST FOLLOW THE MOHAWK LINE: Although he was on his way to a one-sided victory, Hamel was disqualified and lost his third fight in the LFA cage. His loss tied him with nine other fighters for the third-most defeats in company history.
ALE-ALE-JANDRO: Improving his unbeaten record to 6-0, Alejandro Sanchez knocked out Vince Arredondo. All six of Sanchez’s wins have come by stoppage. However, Sanchez did miss weight by 1.8 pounds coming into his bout.
NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN: Coming into LFA 72, Raphael Montini de Lima (nine fights) and Heffernan (eight fights) had never been submitted, McClintock had never fought beyond the first round (12 fights) and Mario Israel had never won on the scorecards (14 fights).
