The Ultimate Fighting Championship staged its final event before the midpoint of the year, with 22 cards since 2021 began. The card brought about a sudden title eliminator in light of recent news, along with a few interesting additional results. UFC Fight Night 190 featured a busted liver, a blazing hot prospect that can’t buy a promo package and a one-choke aficionado.

Rear-Naked Night: Three bouts throughout the course of the night ended via rear-naked choke, tying UFC Fight Night 190 with a host of other cards for the fourth-most at an event. “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 Finale, UFC on FX 1 and UFC on Fuel 2 all maintain the top spot with four on their respective evenings.

Interim Title, Here I Come: Ciryl Gane is now a perfect 9-0 after handling Alexander Volkov over five rounds. The Frenchman has an evenly disturbed win method rate, with one-third of his victories coming by knockout, another third by submission and the remainder by decision.

Barcelos Bucks: In a losing effort, Raoni Barcelos put on a “Fight of the Night”-winning battle with Timur Valiev, where the Brazilian dropped a majority verdict. In Barcelos’ six UFC bouts, he has taken home a FOTN bonus three times.

10-8 By Majority: The majority decision between Barcelos and Valiev is the fourth of its kind this year. 2021 is now two majority decisions short of the UFC record set in 2017.

Pride Gloves or Bust: The eye poke that ended the match between Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda is the third no contest of its kind in the UFC in 2021. That already matches the record of the most eye-poke stoppages in a calendar year for the promotion.

He Means Well: Tim Means’ decision win over Nicolas Dalby lowered his finish rate to 75 percent as a pro. “The Dirty Bird” had never before won three consecutive bouts on the scorecards until his trio of victories over Laureano Staropoli, Mike Perry and Dalby.

The RNC Whisperer: Tapping out Jai Herbert in the second round with a rear-naked choke, all of Renato Carneiro’s career finishes are by submission. Each of his eight tapout wins have come via rear-naked choke.

Give Him the Chimaev Treatment: Putting Michel Prazeres away with a rear-naked choke, Shavkat Rakhmonov is still spotless as a pro with a record of 14-0. All 14 of those wins have come by stoppage, with seven by submission and the other seven by knockout.

Not That Wells: Making a statement in his promotional debut on short notice, Jeremiah Wells leveled Warlley Alves in the second round. The newcomer from Pennsylvania now posts a career stoppage rate of 78 percent.

Liver: Broken: Marcin Prachnio dispatched Isaac Villanueva with a kick to the liver, registering the stoppage at 56 seconds of Round 2. Just four body kick finishes have occurred in the UFC’s light heavyweight division: James Irvin over Hector Ramirez at UFC 65 in 2006, Rich Franklin over Matt Hamill at UFC 88 in 2008, Jan Blachowicz over Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night 53 in 2014 and this one.

A Texas Cannon Made of Glass: Eleven of Villanueva’s 12 career defeats have come by stoppage following his setback against Prachnio. The Texan holds more losses by finish than five of the other competitors at the event have in wins.

Julia on Julija Violence: The clock read 4:19 of the third frame when Julia Avila tapped Julija Stoliarenko out with a rear-naked choke. The finish is the eighth-latest in UFC women’s divisional history among non-title bouts, with four of those eight coming by rear-naked choke.

Never Say Never Again: Coming into UFC Fight Night 190, Barcelos had never lost on the scorecards (17 fights), Herbert (12 fights) and Stoliarenko (15 fights) had never been submitted and Prazeres had never been finished (29 fights).

From Gogol Bordello to Bon Jovi: After walking out to “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi, Tanner Boser destroyed Ovince St. Preux in the second round with strikes. The Canadian is the first since Benson Henderson at UFC 129 in 2011 to use that particular song from the New Jersey-based rock band, and like Henderson, he got his hand raised at the end of the night.

Da Bang Da Bang Diggy Diggy Diggy: Means walked out accompanied by the classic Kid Rock song “Bawitdaba” and defeated Dalby. He is the first fighter to use this track since Houston Alexander did before facing Thiago Silva at UFC 78 in 2007, and the first to win after using it.
