UFC Fight Night 131 was not the only show taking place this
past weekend. LFA
41 in Minnesota on Friday hosted some important fights, and
there were a couple of pivotal match-ups at
M-1 Challenge 93 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
GUILLOTINE FINISH … Lightweights Thiago
Moises and Jeff
Peterson went head-to-head in LFA 41’s main event.
American Top Team’s Moises utilised heavy kicks that had his
opponent reeling on several occasions. The end came in the second
round, when the Brazilian applied a standing guillotine choke
before pulling guard and forcing “The Administrator” to tap at the
4:31 mark. With the victory Moises improved to 10-2. Peterson
slipped to 9-7.
THREE’S A TREAT … In LFA featherweight action, towering Roufusport representative Nate Jennerman dispatched opponent Kevin Croom via a guillotine choke 48 seconds into the first round. “The Hard-Hitting Hillbilly” started aggressively with a double-leg takedown attempt, which left his neck exposed. The submission savvy “Nasty” seized the invitation and applied a standing guillotine choke. The 12-3 Jennerman has won three consecutive fights by submission. Croom, who dropped to 17-9, has lost three of his last four fights.
BIG UPSET … The M-1 Challenge 93 main event culminated in a big upset, with Brazil’s Bruno Silva beating former Bellator MMA middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko in the first round. It was a jumping knee against the ropes that initially hurt “Storm.” This was followed by a fight-ending barrage of heavy punches interspersed with two more knees. “Blindado” improved to 18-6. Shlemenko dropped to 56-11.
FREAK INJURY … M-1 undercard action saw highly-touted Russian middleweight Artem Frolov square off against veteran Joe Riggs. The much-anticipated match-up ended in second-round disappointment, when Riggs’ left knee buckled and he fell to the canvas grimacing in pain. With the win, 26-year-old Frolov remains undefeated at 11-0. Riggs fell to 47-18.

SUBMISSION FEST … In the co-main event, Brazilian
lightweight Killys Mota
disposed of Minnesota’s Bobby Lee.
The first round saw the 27-year-old victor utilizing crisp boxing
combinations that overwhelmed his adversary. Early in the second
stanza, the Brazilian secured a standing guillotine choke. He
continued to squeeze when the pair hit the mat, eliciting the tap
from the American 21-seconds into the round. The now 11-0 Mota
remains unbeaten. Lee slipped to 7-2.
