Dana White: Gadelha-Jedrzejczyk Post-Fight Incident Not a Paul Daley Situation

The women’s strawweight contest between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha at UFC on Fox 13 was viewed by many as a title eliminator bout to decide the next challenger for newly-crowned champion Carla Esparza.

The bout lived up to its billing, as Jedrzejczyk relied on her crisp striking to floor Gadelha in round one en route to capturing a hotly-contested split decision at the US Airways Center in Phoenix on Saturday night.

Tensions boiled over at the end of the third round when Gadelha appeared to throw a right hook at the end of an exchange after the final bell sounded. That ending immediately brought to mind a similar incident at UFC 113, when Paul Daley threw a punch at Josh Koscheck following the conclusion of their 2010 welterweight clash.

Daley was released from the Las Vegas-based promotion as a result of his actions. However, UFC President Dana White sees the Gadelha-Jedrzejczyk situation a little differently.

“People were going crazy on me about that one... Of course, everybody goes back to Daley,” he said. “The difference is this: When Daley did it to Koscheck, I was in there. I went up to Daley... He didn’t care. He didn’t give a s--t. He looked right at me and said he didn’t care.

“As soon as [Gadelha] did it to her, she reached her hand out and she apologized to her,” White continued. “Those two had a war; they’re in the heat of the battle. [Jedrzejczyk] landed a kick, the bell rang and then [Gadelha] hit her with a punch. And then she completely apologized for doing it.”

White walked away extremely impressed with both women. As anticipated, it appears that Jedrzejczyk, who spent the rest of the evening cageside with White, will get the first opportunity to take the 115-pound title from Esparza.

“I love the way this girl fights. I love her striking,” White said. “That was one of those fights... people were asking me earlier, ‘Do you think she won?’ And if they raise Claudia’s hand [I wouldn’t have a problem]. That’s how close that fight was. It was a super close fight and we hung out and watched the show tonight. Yeah, she’s probably gonna get the next shot.”
