Inocente Edges Adegbuyi; Vannostrand Wins Featherweight Tournament at Glory 43

Glory invaded the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday night with another excellent event loaded with combat and a few upsets mixed in for good measure.

In the Glory 43 main event, Guto Inocente fought tooth and nail with betting favorite Benjamin Adegbuyi and narrowly edged him via split decision. Inocente landed the harder, cleaner strikes in the contest and was awarded with the win via tallies of 29-28 (twice) and 28-29. The win inches him that much closer to a shot at reigning heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven.

Kevin Vannostrand held off challenges from Mo Abdurahman and Giga Chikadze to win the event’s four-man one-night featherweight contender tournament. Vannostrand stopped Abdurahman to open the bracket by knocking him down twice in the opening round and then dominated Chikadze in the finals; Vannostrand won a unanimous nod with scores of 30-26 across the board. Chikadze edged Aleksei Ulianov via split decision to make it to the finals.

Elvis Gashi scored the biggest knockout of the night by destroying heavy favorite Josh Jauncey, dropping him three times in the contest. Jauncey was hurt badly in the first and when he was felled for the third time in the fight in the second, the mauling was over. The end came with one tick remaining in the frame to give Gashi his greatest career win thus far.

In the Glory 43 SuperFight Series undercard, Pavel Zhuravlev toppled Saulo Cavalari via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 29-28) to claim the interim Glory light heavyweight title; Bailey Sugden unanimously defeated Arthur Sorsor via scores of 30-27 (twice) and 29-28; Joe Taylor scored a second-round TKO of Ariel Sepulveda (three knockdowns) at the 2:55 mark; Chenchen Li starched Terrance Hill with an overhand right, knocking him out 1:45 into the first; and Anissa Meksen and Itay Gershon both scored unanimous decision wins over Jady Menezes and Rafal Dudek, respectively.
