By The Numbers: Paul Felder vs. Rafael dos Anjos

Two of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s most respected lightweights will confront one another in an impromptu main event, as Paul Felder meets Rafael dos Anjos under the UFC Fight Night 182 marquee this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Neither man can afford a misstep in one of the organization’s deepest divisions.

A short-notice fill-in for Islam Makhachev, Felder finds himself on the rebound following a decision loss to Dan Hooker in the UFC Fight Night 168 headliner on Feb. 23. The Roufusport representative owns a 9-5 record in the UFC and has suffered back-to-back defeats just once in his nine-year career. Dos Anjos, meanwhile, returns to the weight class he once ruled after mediocre eight-fight run at 170 pounds. The Rafael Cordeiro protégé last competed at UFC Fight Night 166 in January, when he dropped a unanimous decision to “The Ultimate Fighter 15” winner Michael Chiesa.

As Felder and dos Anjos make final preparations for their all-important battle, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

35: Years of age for Felder, who was born in Philadelphia on April 25, 1985.

10: Felder wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 59% of his career total (17). His list of notable victims includes Khama Worthy, Danny Castillo and Charles Oliveira. Felder has but one submission victory to his credit, having tapped Daron Cruickshank with a rear-naked choke in the third round of their UFC Fight Night 81 pairing in 2016.

5: Post-fight bonuses banked by Felder across his 14 appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” three times and “Fight of the Night” twice, resulting in $250,000 of additional income.

101: Combined wins between the five men—Hooker, Mike Perry, Francisco Trinaldo, Ross Pearson and Edson Barboza—who have beaten Felder. Three of those five losses ended in split decisions.

11: Lightweight titleholders, including Felder, in Cage Fury Fighting Championships history. Al Buck, Jim Miller, Deividas Taurosevicius, John Cholish, Charlie Brenneman, Nathan Vantassel, Darrel Horcher, Mike Pope, Joseph Lowry and Nikolas Motta are the others. “The Irish Dragon” captured the New Jersey-based promotion’s 155-pound championship on March 22, 2014, made one successful title defense and then vacated the throne when he signed with the UFC.

36: Years of age for dos Anjos, who was born in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 26, 1984.

1,994: Total strikes landed by dos Anjos in the UFC, placing him seventh on the organization’s all-time list. Only Georges St. Pierre (2,591), Max Holloway (2,358), Frankie Edgar (2,339), Nate Diaz (2,256), Jon Fitch (2,185) and Darren Elkins (2,032) have connected with more. Dos Anjos also ranks second in total fight time (6:43:11), seventh in appearances (29), eighth in significant strikes landed (1,401) and ninth in wins (18).

10: Submission victories on the dos Anjos resume, providing him with 34% of his professional total (29). His methods of choice: four rear-naked chokes, three armbars, two arm-triangle chokes and one kimura.

59: Seconds needed for dos Anjos to knock out George Sotiropoulos at UFC 139 in 2011. Having occurred more than nine years ago, it remains the fastest finish of his 42-fight career.

481: Days spent by dos Anjos as undisputed UFC lightweight champion—the fourth-shortest reign in the history of the 155-pound weight class. Only Eddie Alvarez (128 days), Jens Pulver (393 days) and Sean Sherk (420 days) spent less time atop the division.
