By the Numbers: UFC 311

Islam Makhachev made sure there would be no fairy tale ending on this night.

Unfazed by a last-minute opponent switch, Makhachev ran through Renato “Money Moicano” Carneiro in the UFC 311 main event, submitting his Brazilian foe with a brabo choke at the 4:05 mark of Round 1 on Saturday at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. The Dagestani continues his reign atop the lightweight division, and for now there appears to be no end in sight. Perhaps a rebooking against original opponent Arman Tsarukyan looms, but that’s a consideration for another day.

8: Submission victories in the Octagon for Makhachev. That’s third in UFC lightweight history behind only Jim Miller (11) and Charles Oliveira (10). Makhachev’s list of victims include “Moicano,” Dustin Poirier, Oliveira, Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises, Drew Dober, Kajan Johnson and Leo Kuntz.

2,730: Days since “Moicano’s” last submission defeat, a guillotine choke loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017.

11: Bantamweight victories for Merab Dvalishvili, which ties him with Urijah Faber and Rob Font for fifth most in UFC history. Only Aljamain Sterling (14), T.J. Dillashaw (13), Marlon Vera (13) and Raphael Assuncao (12) have won more. Dvalishvili defended his 135-pound belt with a unanimous decision triumph against Umar Nurmagomedov.

30: Takedown attempts for Dvalishvili, who was successful on seven of those. “The Machine” got more aggressive as the fight progressed, attempting a total of 21 takedowns in the championship rounds. By comparison, Nurmagomedov landed two of his 15 tries in the five-round fight.

92: Career takedowns landed by Dvalishvili in UFC competition. On Saturday, he passed Georges St. Pierre (90) for the top spot in promotion history when he landed his last two takedowns in the final frame.

111: Significant strikes landed by Dvalishvili. Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, landed 104. Dvalishvili outlanded his opponent 20 to 18 in Round 1 and 36 to 21 in Round 4. Nurmagomedov outlanded Dvalishvili 25 to 20 in Round 2, 22 to 21 in Round 3 and 18 to 14 in Round 5. Dvalishvili also held a 142-113 advantage in total strikes landed.

97: Significant strikes landed by Jiri Prochazka in a third-round technical knockout victory against Jamahal Hill at light heavyweight. By comparison, Hill landed 81 significant strikes. Prochazka outlanded his foe 32 to 23 in Round 1 and 43 to 20 in Round 3, while Hill held a 38-to-22 edge in Round 2.

2: Knockdowns landed by Prochazka. The Czech fighter floored his foe in the first and third frames.

5: Finishes for Prochazka since 2020. That ties him with Dustin Jacoby, Kennedy Nzechukwu and Carlos Ulberg for the most in the UFC’s light heavyweight division during that period.

13: Career submission wins — including two in the Octagon — for Reinier de Ridder, who tapped out Kevin Holland with a rear-naked choke in the opening round of their middleweight encounter.

8: Takedowns landed in 15 attempts by Raoni Barcelos in a dominant three-round verdict over previously undefeated prospect Payton Talbott at bantamweight. Barcelos had never landed more than three takedowns in a fight in 11 prior Octagon appearances.

17: Finishes among 17 professional triumphs for Bogdan Guskov, who survived a difficult opening round to put away short-notice foe Billy Elekana with a guillotine choke 3:33 into the second round of their middleweight pairing. Guskov has stopped Elekana, Ryan Spann and Zac Pauga in UFC competition.

6: Takedowns landed in 10 attempts by Grant Dawson in a unanimous decision triumph against Diego Ferreira at lightweight, tying for the second most of his UFC tenure. Dawson also logged 10:50 total control time and outlanded his foe 195 to 84 in total strikes in the lopsided victory.

40: Career takedowns for Dawson, tying him with Marc Diakiese for ninth most in UFC lightweight history. Dawson has landed a takedown in every one of his UFC bouts except for a 33-second knockout loss to Bobby Green.

5: Consecutive victories for Ailin Perez, the longest active winning streak in the UFC women’s bantamweight division. Perez secured her most significant victory to date with a three-round verdict over Karol Rosa on the preliminary bill.

22: Career takedowns landed in UFC competition for Perez, third most in women’s bantamweight history behind only Sara McMann (27) and Amanda Nunes (32). Perez landed two of eight takedown attempts against Rosa.

64: Significant head strikes landed by Bernardo Sopai in a decsion win over Ricky Turcios at bantamweight. By comparison, Turcios landed 30 significant strikes to the head.

15-5: Ratio of Tagir Ulanbekov’s takedowns landed to his opponent’s in the Dagestani’s five UFC triumphs. Ulanbekov landed three takedowns to Clayton Carpenter’s one in a unanimous decision triumph in the evening’s opening bout at flyweight. Ulanbekov lost the only UFC bout when he failed to land more takedowns than his opponent, when Tim Elliott outlanded him by a 3-to-2 count in a three-round verdict at UFC 272.
