By the Numbers: UFC Austin

If there was any doubt beforehand, there isn’t now: Donald Cerrone still has plenty left in the tank.

“Cowboy” got a much-needed victory in the UFC Fight Night 126 headliner in Austin, Texas, on Sunday night, as he scored a knockout of Yancy Medeiros in the waning seconds of the opening round. A right hand to the jaw sent Medeiros tumbling to the ground, and Cerrone sealed the win with follow-up punches on the mat at the 4:58 mark of the period.

9-1: UFC lightweight record for James Vick, who has quietly become a contender in one of the promotion’s deepest divisions while notching victories over the likes of Francisco Trinaldo, Joseph Duffy, Abel Trujillo and Jake Matthews.

42: Significant strikes by which Vick outlanded Trinaldo on Sunday. “The Texecutioner” relied on his reach advantage to outland his Brazilian foe 23 to 7 in round one, 25 to 9 in round two and 20 to 10 in round three.

7: Consecutive victories for Curtis Millender after losing three of four appearances — two in Bellator MMA — in 2015. “Curtious” added to his streak by knocking out Thiago Alves with a knee 4:17 into round two in his Octagon debut on Sunday — his third straight KO triumph.

31: Significant head strikes landed by Millender, who connected on 47 significant strikes overall. While Millender landed 31 of 85 strikes to the head, Alves landed just 3 of his 63 attempted head shots.

187: Combined significant strikes landed by Brandon Davis (114) and Steven Peterson (73) in a featured featherweight affair. In addition to outlanding his opponent in each frame, Davis defended nine of 10 takedowns en route to a unanimous decision victory.

125: Total strikes landed by Sage Northcutt in a three-round verdict against Thibault Gouti at lightweight. By comparison, Gouti landed just 30 total strikes. The Katy, Texas, native notably outlanded his opponent 36 to 9 in round one and 61 to 6 in round three.

While the Frenchman was able to have a measure of success with his wrestling, he also rocked his foe on multiple occasions and squandered some of those opportunities by attempting takedowns after landing big punches. Northcutt, meanwhile, landed just one of nine takedown attempts.

32: Significant strikes by which Lucie Pudilova outlanded Sarah Moras in their women’s bantamweight bout. That included a 19-to-8 advantage in round two and a 33-to-7 edge in round three, as “Bullet” captured a unanimous decision. Pudilova also had two knockdowns in the fight.

1-7: Record for Joshua Burkman in his last eight Octagon appearances following a first-round submission defeat against Alex Morono on Saturday night. That record falls to 1-8 when including a decision loss to Hector Lombard at UFC 182, which was overturned when Lombard failed a drug test.

12: UFC defeats overall for Burkman, second-most in promotion history behind only Jeremy Stephens. Over the course of two promotional tenures, “The People’s Warrior” has compiled a 6-12 mark with one no contest in the Octagon.
